The head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Chad and Central African Republic is in on a visit to Europe.

He is looking for funding for a Chadian police force.

Victor Angelo, the Secretary General's special representative and head of Minurcat, needs more than 20 million dollars to keep the Integrated Security Detachment - the DIS gendarme unit running in 2010.

The DIS has been working across eastern Chad for the last nine months, providing security to a quarter of a million refugees from Darfur and humanitarian workers.

Celeste Hicks reports.
