In New York the opening session of the 64th UN general assembly produced a succession of headline making speeches, some of which triggered walk outs by some leaders in protest.

Some fourteen African leaders were there to flag up the continent's issues as the session took on questions of the impact of the global economic crisis, Africa's conflicts, the fight against poverty as well as the challenge of climate change.

Our reporter at the UN Bessan Vikou told Akwasi Sarpong the latest, starting off with a UN briefing on Somalia.
