There's been mixed reaction in Ivory Coast to the news that a legal case involving more than 30,000 alleged victims of chemical dumping is going to be settled out of court.

In August 2006, chemical waste was dumped at about 15 sites around the commercial capital Abidjan.

The Ivorian government says it led to at least 15 deaths.

The company that hired contractors to dispose of the waste, Trafigura, has always denied it was harmful.

Now Trafigura's lawyers are discussing an out-of-court settlement with the lawyers representing the Ivorians.

Focus on Africa's correspondent in Abidjan, John James, has been getting reaction.
