Nigeria's main militant group in the oil-producing Delta region, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND, says it has extended its unilateral ceasefire by 30 days.
There had been fears of a return to attacks on oil installations in the area when an earlier 60-day ceasefire ended yesterday.
MEND says the extension is to allow time for more talks with the government, but warned of its dissatisfaction that the government's amnesty programme had not yet tackled key issues.
Peter Ndoro spoke to the BBC's correspondent in the Delta region, Abdullahi Kaura Abubakar.
