The condom is widely promoted, by sexual health campaigners, to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

However, there have been several instances in Africa where the authorities have had to stop the sale of what they claim are poor quality condoms which break during sex.

Zambia took action against two brands of condoms in August; the Tanzanian and South African authorities have all done the same at one time or the other.

Now, an investigation by the Kenya Bureau of standards has shown that a brand of condoms - known as Hot - was found to leak.
