Operations are continuing across west Africa to help hundreds of thousands of people suffering as a result of flooding.
The scale of the disaster appears now to be comparable to the devastating floods that hit the region two years ago.
At least 16 countries have been affected by heavy rains which have destroyed infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, farmland and grain stores.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is heading the relief efforts and the BBC's Sophie Ikenye spoke to its Regional Director, Herve Ludovich de Lys.
