Libyans have continued to mark the 40th anniversary of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi coming to power with festivities that lasted to the early hours of today.

A military parade with the participation of several African countries and some of Europe's eastern block was held during the day, followed by a theatrical act depicting Libya's ancient and modern history.
