In Libya the next six days will see lavish concerts, parties, plays and exhibitions all to mark the 40th anniversary of Colonel Muamar Gadhafi in power.

But not everyone there sees cause for a celebration.

On this day in 1969, Gadhafi took over Libya in a bloodless coup that toppled King Idris I.

That so-called "Al-Fateh Revolution" being marked in the capital Tripoli will mean a lot for the man who has divided opinion both in his country and across the continent.

So how big are the celebrations starting later today?

Akwasi Sarpong spoke to the BBC's Rana Jawad on the line to Tripoli.
