It's been a long time since Gabon had a new President - over 40 years, in fact.

The death of the fabulously wealthy Omar Bongo in June left an uncertain future.

But voters in Gabon went to the polls on Sunday to elect a new leader.

The late ruler's son Ali Ben Bongo is seen as the frontrunner over his two main challengers, former minister Andre Mba Obame and opposition veteran Pierre Mamboundou.

With initial results trickling in already, Akwasi Sarpong spoke to our reporter Linel Kwatsi in Libreville.
