ECOWAS talks in Niger on Tandja's terms

A high-powered ECOWAS delegation led by the Nigerian foreign minister Mr Bagadu Hirse has just concluded meetings in Niamey to try and resolve the crisis over President Mamdou Tandja's wishes for an extra term.

Mr Tandja recently won a referendum on August 4th which allows him to stay in office for another three years, and to contest subsequent elections.

However his decision has triggered a wave of protests both at home and abroad and Niger's opposition is demanding he steps down.

Weekend Network's Idy Baraou asked Mr Hirse what the outcome of the ECOWAS mediation had been.
