The banana, one of Africa's most vital food crops, is under threat from two deadly diseases.
Scientists say the bunchy top viral disease, which results in stunted growth, has been found in countries ranging from Ethiopia to Gabon.
Bananas are the primary food source for 30 million people in countries such as Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
Now plant health scientists are meeting in Arusha, Tanzania to discuss how to counter the threat.
For more information, Sophie Ikenye spoke to Dr Christopher Chemereire, a scientist at the Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute in Uganda.
