Kenya's population comes under scrutiny today as the country begins its first census in 10 years.

But the process may prove to be controversial because one of the questions that people will have to answer is "what tribe do you belong to?"

Although this is not the first time the question has been included in a census, tribal identity is especially sensitive this time around: it comes less than 2 years after violence along ethnic lines led to the death of some one thousand people following the disputed elections in 2007.
