Rebel groups from Sudan's Darfur region have been locked in a meeting in Addis Ababa with the US special envoy to Sudan, Scott Gration.

One of the aims of negotiations is to get them to put aside their differences and speak with one voice in talks with the Sudanese government.

So while the talks are going on in Addis Ababa - how do the government in Khartoum view the situation?

Focus on Africa's Hassan Arouni spoke to Dr Tajussir Mahjoub, a minister in the government, who was also a senior official in Darfur.
