Elections are due in Sudan next year- they were a big part of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that brought an end to the civil war between the north and south.

But a group of opposition parties from the north is threatening to boycott the polls if they are not free and fair.

Focus on Africa's James Copnall in Khartoum spoke to the former Prime Minister Sadiq al Mahdi, who is now the head of the opposition Umma party, and asked him to explain their position.
