The American Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has ended her seven nation Africa tour with a final stop-over in the Cape Verde Islands.
Throughout her visit she delivered a consistent message; the United States is ready to work with the continent but Africans should be responsible for their own fate.
She also said that the world's superpower does not have - what she called - a magic wand to solve endemic problems.
So what has this visit achieved? Brooks Spector, a former US diplomat in Africa, spoke to Hassan Arouni from Johannesburg.
