Following the death of Omar Bongo of Gabon, Angola's Jose Eduardo dos Santos' 30 years in power takes him to second in the list of Africa's longest-serving leaders behind Libya's Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Last year, Angola held its first parliamentary poll for 16 years - in which Dos Santos' MPLA won 82% of the vote - and a presidential vote was expected during 2009, in which Dos Santos will undoubtedly stand.

Because of delays in the creation of a new constitution, which is being formed from suggestions from the different parties, this vote is now not likely to happen until late 2010 - as Louise Redvers reports from Luanda.
