Security sources in Mali says the army has attacked and destroyed a base of suspected islamist militants near the border with Algeria.

According to Malian security sources several members of the targeted armed group Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb have been killed.

But there are reports that Malian soldiers have been killed as well.

This is believed to be the first such attack by Mailan troops against Islamist militants in the North.
