A major upset has occurred following Friday's local elections in Morocco.

The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), which is just a year old, has won more than a quarter of seats in the country's local elections.

Created last year by members of five existing parties it has positioned itself as an alternative to the ruling Istiqlal and opposition Islamist parties.

So was their victory a surprise?

Weekend Network Africa's Bola Mosuro spoke to Mohammed Ben Madhani, editor of the Maghreb review.
