Senior Nigerian defence officials today appeared before the lower House of Parliament to explain the military action in the Niger Delta.

The briefing followed allegations of the mass killing of civilians by the military there.

An estimated 20,000 civilians have been reportedly displaced by the renewed fighting between the military and militants in Delta state alone since the campaign started about three weeks ago.
