The Parliament in Malawi opens today after last month's election with the swearing-in of MPs.

It marks a new era for the National Assembly which over the last five years became a circus of political bickering with the opposition calling the shots.

This time around, the DPP - the party of the president, Bingu wa Mutharika, has a commanding majority.

Joel Mkhoma reports from Lilongwe on what may be in store.
