The former Sudanese President Jaafar Nimeiri, who died yesterday aged 79, will be given a state funeral later today in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital, Khartoum.
The funeral is expected to be attended by President Omar el-Bashir .
Mr Nimeiri is remembered for introducing Islamic law in Sudan and later becoming a close ally of the U.S.
He was ousted in a coup in 1985.
