It's twenty-six years since southern Sudanese soldiers staged a revolt and formed the rebel Sudan's People Liberation Army, or SPLA.

Today the anniversary was celebrated in peace with a rally and military display.

But stability in the region is not assured while the threat of conflict remains from disputes among rival ethnic groups and from the fear of war once again with the north.

Peter Martell reports from the southern Sudanese capital Juba.
