Malawi's incumbent President, Bingu Wa Mutharika, under the banner of his Democratic Progressive Party, has won a landslide election victory.

His main challenger, John Tembo, was fronting the opposition coalition which brought together the Malawi Congress Party, and the UDF, the United Democratic Front.
