Malawians are waking up to the morning after the day before.
Overnight, votes were being counted to determine who will lead their country and represent them in their parliament.
In what has been described by analysts as a tightly contested race, the incumbent President Bingu wa Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party is being challenged by John Tembo of the Malawi Congress Party among others.
The head of the Commonwealth Observer mission, Ghana's John Kufuor seemed to be satisfied with the voting process.
Vote counting continued throughout the night.
The BBC's Raphael Tenthani has been monitoring the results coming through at the Tally Centre in Malawi's commercial capital Blantyre. He spoke to Peter Ndoro.
