Malawi's general elections are next week and the incumbent president, Bingu Wa Mutharika from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) , is facing a strong challenge from John Tembo, who's running for the coalition formed a month ago by two former rival parties, the UDF and the MCP.
One of the battleground areas for the poll is the north of the country.
People there have long complained that they've been ignored but now a big uranium mining project in the region has given the economy there a big boost.
