Access Audits will help Village Hall Committees identify gaps in their provision for disabled people and help them to comply with The Disabled Discrimination Act. | | Older village halls, like this one at Great Cheverell can get help to make them more user-friendly for disabled people. |
The Act states that all village hall committees must take reasonable steps to change any policies, procedures or practices that make it impossible for disabled people to use their premises. As these changes have to be in place by 2004, now is the time to have your hall assessed. Every village hall in Kennet can apply to the District Council for up to £100 towards the cost of carrying out an audit, which will look at communication issues as well as physical access.
