The inhabitants of the three villages of Porton, Idmiston and Gomeldon have plenty of Jubilee activities to look forward to. | Jubilee resurrection: Idmiston Church | |
The old church at Idmiston is being brought back into business with a special inter-denomination service of thanksgiving. On the same day, Sunday 2nd June, villagers will open their gardens, giving visitors a chance to drop-in and enjoy the efforts of Idmiston's gardeners. Beer Festival Organisers have also arranged a festival of local beers provided by breweries (including Stonehenge and Ringwood). A bread and cheese supper and entertainment are also being planned, with music from folk band Taliesin. Her Majesty The Queen has said that her Jubilee Day is begin with plenty of noise and villagers have organised just the thing! A noisy, children’s parade will wend its way up the main street to the Memorial Hall where there will be spit roasted pork and a barbecue to satisfy the sharpest of appetites.
As part of the BBC Music Live event, entertainer Wayne Gardner performs at the Memorial Hall, where a karaoke sing-a-long has also been arranged from 2.30pm. Other activities include a Penalty Shoot Out competition organised by Salisbury City Football Club.

Mugged memories It is hoped that the Golden Jubilee will be a celebration that youngsters from the village will carry with them long into the future.
