Hire your DVDs from the local library
News imageBlockbuster films on DVD are being made more widely available from libraries in Wiltshire. The County Council is increasing the number of libraries that stock films in this format in response to popular demand.

Collections of DVDs are now also held at libraries in Amesbury, Corsham, Malmesbury, Marlborough and Westbury.

Calendar Girls DVD coverRecent films, such as Finding Nemo, The Pirates of the Caribbean and Calendar Girls, are now directly available to rent from a total of 14 libraries in Wiltshire.

The other libraries holding collections of DVDs are: Trowbridge, Calne, Salisbury, Wootton Bassett, Melksham, Bradford on Avon, Chippenham, Devizes and Warminster.

They can also be ordered through any one of the other 16 libraries in the county and four mobile libraries.

Pirates of the Caribbean DVD coverTo make space for the new items at the five additional libraries, less popular collections of music CDs are being moved to other libraries. It will still be possible to order CDs from these five libraries.

Library stock manager David Green said: "DVDs are becoming increasingly popular and to help meet the public demand for films in this format we have increased the number of libraries stocking them.

"Libraries are about more than just books. They provide access to a wide range of books, videos, CDs, computer games and of course DVDs.

Finding Nemo DVD cover"We now hold more than 2,500 DVDs across libraries in Wiltshire, which means there should be something to interest everyone."

DVDs can be borrowed from libraries for up to one week at a time. The lending fee is the same as for videos - £1.50 for TV programmes and older movies, and £2.90 for new titles.

For more information about the DVDs that are available, either visit your local library or go online and explore the library catalogue at www.willtshire.gov.uk.
