Swapit Wiltshire is being run by Wiltshire County Council to provide people with alternatives to the dustbin or the tip. The website gives individuals and local businesses the opportunity to find new homes for unwanted items. Advertising an item on www.swapitwiltshire.com is free and simple. All you have to do is give a description of the item, say what you would like in exchange, if anything, and give your email address. Items will remain on the website for 20 days. People can also advertise for anything that they are looking for in exactly the same way. | | Swapit Wiltshire - the virtual market place - what will you swap? |
Julieanna Powell-Turner, principal project officer, said: "Swapitwiltshire.com is like a virtual marketplace and is specific for Wiltshire. "It serves residents and small businesses by making available items for the household, office, garage, and garden for free. The site has been set up to make it easy for people to swap things that may be junk to them, but could be just what somebody else is looking for. "Examples of items that might be swapped on this site include: furniture, electrical appliances, and bicycles, however you can swap pretty much anything. "So, if you want to clear out your attic, find rare items, or swap used items for free, this is the site for you. Remember, rather than taking your unwanted to items to the tip or throwing them away, advertise them on swapitwiltshire.com for free." | | Screenshot from the Swapit Wiltshire website |
