Eighteen of the council's bin lorries are being fitted with eye catching signs encouraging householders to do their bit and join the 'Don't let North Wiltshire go to waste' recycling drive.

The campaign hopes that locals will cut the amount they throw away each week and choose to recycle instead.

The bright green signs were specially designed and carry the slogan 'We'd rather be recycling'.

The number of a new recycling hotline is included.

The hotline gives residents information on how they can do their bit and boost recycling.

A spokesperson for the authority told BBC Wiltshire: "The refuse lorries are seen by thousands of people across the district each week and will be taking the recycling message into every street in North Wiltshire.

"Special information leaflets and posters detailing the district's local recycling centres and facilities have also been produced and will be available from a number of locations including council offices, in libraries, information points, and Tourist Information Centres."
