By increasing walking, cycling, lift sharing and bus use, the scheme aims to reduce the problems caused by cars on the school run, such as congestion and pollution. Travelwise manager William Prendergast said: "Since the Taking Action on School Journeys initiative was launched, we have been encouraging schools to develop their own travel plans. "By doing this, schools can identify which projects will help them to increase the number of pupils travelling to and from school by using 'greener' forms of transport."
