Keep the flag flying in Swindon

Join a million Union Jack wavers, at the Big Screen Swindon, for the Last Night of the Proms...

Last Night of the Proms

Ok so this summer hasn't been anything to sing about and picnic opportunities have been few and far between… but at Wharf Green in Swindon, this Saturday, there's a chance to do both as the Last Night of the Proms hits Swindon's Big Screen.

Over a million Union Jack waving revellers, across the UK, are expected to sing-a-long on the Last Night of the Prom's and Swindon is gearing up to join in.

Free Union Jack Bowler Hats and Flags

But unlike the promenaders, crammed into the Royal Festival Hall, at Wharf Green in Swindon you can enjoy a bit of a promenade in the comfort of a chair thoughtfully provided.

And if you've mislaid your Union Jack bowler hat and red, white and blue flag (what were you thinking?) don't worry you can get your hands on both for free at Swindon's Big Screen Proms party.

Last Night of the Proms

Kicking off at 7:00pm, on Saturday evening, Swindon promenaders can gear up for the classic music fest by trying their hand at a spot of baton wielding in a new interactive conducting competition. So if you've ever fancied getting in front of an orchestra, well at least virtually, and tapping for silence then this is your chance.

Maestro Finale

Then at 7:45, it's over to Hyde Park, for the full screen coverage of the finale of Maestro with the battle of the baton champion Sue Perkins. Sue, fresh from her triumphant victory in the public vote, will be conducting the BBC Orchestra and soloist Leslie Garrett in front of an audience of over 30,000 revellers.

And as the world's greatest classical music fest gets ready to sign off for 2008… the Big Screen Swindon will be linking up live to the Royal Albert Hall, at 8:00 pm, for supersized coverage of the Last Night of the Proms.

So whatever the weather, and we're expecting 'whatever', head to Wharf Green in Swindon with a picnic and a patriotic brolly and get ready to fly the flag for Swindon and sing your socks off to all the revellers classics… Land of Hope and Glory, Jeruselum and of course the National Anthem.

Let's promenade…
