The number of natural nest sites for small birds are in rapid decline due to our interference with the natural landscape. But we can still make a change by putting up nest boxes in our gardens to encourage birds to nest there. The BBC and the British Trust for Ornithology are inviting you to not only provide a nesting place for your local birds, you can also help by monitoring the box. Success on the busAll the nest boxes were handed out from the Blue Bus when it was parked in Concord and Newcastle. It was truly a success, with crowds turning up early in the morning at both venues. If you were unable to hold of one of these nest boxes, you can still make your own bird box by following this link to BBC Breathing Places. Once you've put the nest box up, the challenge is on - to take part in the survey. Get in touch! We would like to hear from you and the progress of your nest box - you can send us your images and a progress report of what's happening in your garden nest box. |
