Companies based in South Wales ports claim they are at a disadvantage compared to their English counterparts because of backdated business rates bills. The charges were waived in England by the Westminster Government after a successful lobbying campaign. But the Welsh Assembly Government say it would have lost £10 million from the treasury had it done the same as England, leading to deeper cuts in the public sector. What now for the shipping companies? Nick Servini discusses the issues with a Newport dock company boss.
