Welsh language measure

The long awaited Welsh language measure designed to strengthen the Welsh language act was published last week.

The proposed measure will allow the Welsh Assembly Government to legislate that companies providing a public service will have to provide Welsh language facilities and will allow it to appoint a language commissioner.

Last updated: 10 March 2010

But some in the business community are concerned. They feel that this is a step too far and that forcing companies to use the language is the wrong way to go - while supporters feel that the right to use Welsh in Wales is an important step forward in creating equality for the Welsh and English languages.

Tonight on Wales@Work we are asking whether the Welsh language measure is an important step forward in support of the Welsh language or another rung of unneeded legislation.
