Social Enterprise

For many people they're the acceptable face of business. Social Enterprises are the most ethical of companies.

They have a triple bottom line. As well as making profits, they're committed to helping society and the environment.

They're particularly strong here and include some of the most well-known companies like Welsh Water, Welsh National Opera and Wales and West Housing Association.

Supporters say they excel in areas where other businesses fear to tread - areas like urban regeneration and social housing. And they help make community services more affordable. But some fear they're privatising the voluntary sector.

As the first ever Social Enterprise Awards are being held in Wales this week to celebrate a growing sector. What future do they have and what impact are they having in Wales?
