Postal Strike

As postal workers plan a nationwide strike Wales@Work looks at what it could mean for businesses in Wales.

The Royal Mail is in serious trouble. A big company struggling to modernise in a very competative postal market they've seen profits fall while morale among the workforce is low.

Not only that but they also have an estimated £9 billion pension deficit to contend with.

Everyone agrees the service needs modernising, but the Communications Workers Union says they are going the wrong way about it - making redundancies without consultation and demanding more of workers.

Many companies are now switching to private courier firms - but a strike could be disastrous for many small businesses which rely on a cheap, nationwide postal service. And will a strike work anyway?

As negotiations continue Wales@Work examines the reasons behind the industrial action and the future of the Royal Mail.
