Rising from the Ashes

The Swalec Stadium - the world's 100th Test match venue - makes history when it hosts the first match in the 2009 Ashes Series.

It's quite a coup for Cardiff - the first time an Ashes match has been played outside of any ground in England or Australia in its 127-year history and is worth around £10m to the city.

And it's not the only big sporting event coming to Wales - golf's Ryder Cup tees off at the Celtic Manor in Newport next year.

Cardiff's hotels are full and pubs and restaurants across town are looking forward to a bumper week.

But apart from the prestige and a quick profit for some what do these one-off events bring to Wales in the long-term?

How important are other big sporting occasions like the Six Nations, the Heineken Cup and Wales rally GB to the economy here?
