The Latest update from Wales@work

Retail Under Fire

The retail sector has been rocked in the past few weeks with big name chains closing or calling in the administrators.

It has been a shock to the system for a sector that has been buoyant for many years, with the British Retail Consortium reporting that the results for December are the worst since its survey began.

Wrexham has seen the Eagles Meadow shopping centre open in October and Cardiff's St Davids 2 is set to open at the end of this year - but will they fill all the units and will the High Streets of Wales be changed forever?

So what now for Welsh retail? While big chains go to the wall are our independent stores reaping the benefits?

Wales@Work examines the changes in the retail sector in the past three months and discusses how Welsh traders can survive in 2009.
