Uni of learning or Uni of Life?

Have your children left for university this week? An exciting time for any teenager starting out in the world on their own, but when it comes to leaving Uni what will they find when they come out the other end of their degree course?

The Westminster Government is aiming to get 50 per cent of school leavers in higher education - but will there be enough jobs out there for all graduates when they leave?

Figures from 2004/05 found that a third of graduates have jobs that did not require a degree - so is a higher education qualification still relevant in today's workplace?

Millionaire businessmen Sir Alan Sugar and Richard Branson didn't attend university, moneysupermarket.com founder Simon Nixon dropped out of his accounting course and even John Major ran the country without having gained a degree - so is the "university of life" the better way to go?
Or are job based training schemes a better way to go? Where do you earn the most? And does a degree help you climb the career ladder quicker?
