Wales@work in the NHS

This week it isn't Wales at Work, but Wales at Work in the NHS as a special to mark the 60th anniversary of our health service.

On the Tuesday 1 July 2008 programme

The NHS is the second biggest employer in Wales and to celebrate that and the 60th anniversary Wales@Work is discussing what it's like working in the NHS these days.

How has the NHS in Wales changed since its inception by Aneurin Bevan all those years ago and are we still providing workers within the NHS good job security and satisfaction. Are the proposed changes in pay and conditions for nurses and doctors going to affect our health provision? And what are the expectations of people joining the NHS - will they still be working there in 60 years time?

It is also around ten years of the NHS in Wales being governed by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Wales@Work will be discussing how the Assembly Government has done in running the NHS as a business. Free prescriptions and free parking are just a few of its new policies, but how is the already stretched NHS going to pay for them? Do the NHS' balance sheets balance?
