They are Wales's oldest professional football club and played in the league for 87 years, but next season Wrexham FC will be playing non league football in the Blue Square Premier division.

Defeat at the hands of Hereford last month spelled relegation for the Dragons, who have faced struggles on and off the pitch in the last few years.

Before the club's relegation there were plans to make the Racecourse ground the "Millennium Stadium of the north". The proposed multi-million pound development would include housing and retail, and the club is also hoping to attract public funding for a new, all-seater stand.

But will Wrexham's non-league status have any effect on those plans? And what are the knock-on effects for other businesses in the area?

The Dragons' fortunes on the pitch may be in stark contrast with those of Cardiff City FC - but is this reflected in both clubs' plans for their respective homes?
