Cardiff Chamber of Commerce.

South Wales looks set to get a "super" Chamber of Commerce after the collapse of the body representing the capital city.

Earlier this month it emerged that Cardiff Chamber of Commerce - which has represented thousands of companies for the past 140 years - had gone into liquidation.

It said it was unable to pay off old debts after it was paid money by the former learning and skills council ELWa to which it was not entitled.

Now a steering committee has been set up to look at merging the Chambers of Commerce of Cardiff, Newport and west Wales.

But why was this situation allowed to happen in the first place, and what has it meant for the members of Cardiff Chamber of Commerce?

What will the future hold for them now - and could this situation arise elsewhere?
