A New Future for Coal?

Could coal become a major industry once again in Wales? Tower Colliery may be coming to the end of its life, but other mines are being re-opened and some believe the industry could be on the brink of bringing hundreds - or even thousands - of jobs again.

This week Wales@work comes from Maesteg, an area with a rich mining history - at one time there were six collieries in the town.

Will these former mining communities soon be seeing a renaissance? Or will Welsh coal be squeezed out of the market by imports? Who will be its customers - and will they be around for long?

Wales@Work, Tuesday 23 October at 6.32pm, repeated Sunday 28 October at 7.03am.
