Interest rates rise

If you're a homeowner, a saver, or a business person, you won't have missed news of the most recent interest rate rise.

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee put up rates by a quarter point to 5.75% this month - the fifth hike since last August.

Interest rates are now at their highest level since January 2001, and on Wednesday we'll find out the thinking behind the latest rise.

It was broadly expected, but when they're released, the MPC minutes will still be scrutinised for clues to the committee's thinking.

So is another rise on the cards? Some economists think so, but the Confederation of British Industry wants to see some breathing space to allow the hikes imposed so far to filter through.

Sarah Dickins and guests discuss what state the economy is in, and where we're likely to go from here.
