In this week's Science Cafe Adam Walton visits Cardiff University's School of Chemistry and hears about the recently opened Cardiff Catalysis Institute, and hears about the Flash Bang Wallop roadshow which will be going on the road for this, the International Year Of Chemistry.

Adam gets a guided tour of the Catalysis Institute from Head Of School Professor Peter Knowles, and Professor Graham Hutchings. The visit explains the importance of catalysis in modern chemistry and how both methanol and hydrogen peroxide play a role in our everyday lives.
Adam also meets Professor Peter Edwards and retired Penarth chemistry teacher Peter Hollamby who explain the Flash Bang Wallop roadshow and how it makes chemistry exciting while keeping it safe.
We also hear about research into fuel cells of the future and how chemistry is helping to solve biological problems. .
