Zooming In
Have you tried it yet? We bet you have! Google Street View has just gone nationwide in the UK and anyone with an ounce of curiosity will already have checked out their home online. Many smaller, rural villages in Wales were missed out at the initial launch phase but Ed Parsons, Google's Geospatial Technologist, explains to Adam Walton how they've been working hard to put that right.
Algae Solution
Scientists at Swansea University are taking a closer look at some types of algae which could prove to have some rather useful uses. The marine blooms are being investigated for their oil producing properties as researchers look for a greener fuel. Dr Robin Shields is leading the research in the Algal Biotechnology project and talks to Adam about the potential spin-offs.
Future Computer
On March 16th Professor Chris Bishop, Chief Research Scientist at Microsoft Reasearch Cambridge and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, will be delivering the Turing Lecture at Cardiff Univesity. The title is Embracing Uncertainty: the New Machine Intelligence and he joins the programme to give us just a taster of what the future for computers might be.
Beach Robot
The beautiful Clarach beach in Mid-Wales has been something of a testing ground for a Mars-bound robot this past week. Stephen Pugh is an academic at nearby Aberystwyth University and also one of the team working on the roving robot's cameras ahead of ExoMars mission. He talks about the robot's progress and what the mission hopes to achieve.
