This week - we start the new year with a look ahead to a new year of science and technology.

Augmented reality

Adam Walton chats to technology journalist Bill Thompson about some of the expected hot topics in technology in the coming year. Bill reckons "augmented reality" via our increasingly "smart" mobile phones will open up some exciting new possibilites. He also discusses the proposed "broadband tax" and its possible impact on broadband Britain if it goes ahead.

Dr Edward Gomez, who is Education Manager at Las Cumbres Observatory at Cardiff University, looks back at 2009, the International Year Of Astronomy, and forward to astronomy in 2010

Year of biodiversity

Adam chats to Neal Hockley who's an environmental economist at Bangor University, and Nicola Hutchinson, who is the Biodiversity Programme Manager for Plantlife, the wild plant conservation charity. They discuss how the next twelve months will be used to promote biodiversity across the world. 2010 has been designated International Year Of Biodiversity. Neal explains his role in the biodiversity agenda in Wales, and Nicola discusses how it will be important in the coming twelve months to not only discuss the decline in many areas of plants and animal habitats, but also to celebrate the successes.
