- Science Cafe September 20

20th September 2009

In this week's Science Café presenter Adam Walton travels to Beddgelert to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of a meteorite crashing through the roof of a local hostelry. There have only been two, known meteorite landings in Wales, so this was manna from heaven for scientists.

A meteorite literally carries the secrets of the universe and geologist Heather Jackson explains them to Adam. Astronomer Sarah Roberts joins Adam at the scene of the landing and talks about where it might have come from. And Paul Roche, from the Faulkes Telescope Project, offers a fun way for children to learn about meteorites through a clever new website.

Anyone who thinks they may have found a meteorite, or part of one, can contact Heather at the geology department of the National Museum of Wales.
