...then a radical idea was born .... individuals were asked to open up private gardens for 'a shilling a head' to raise money for the nurses of the Queen's Nursing Institute. Eighty five years on and the National Garden Scheme opens 38,000 gardens raising money for charity. With the Yellow book in hand - the garden visitor's bible - Rachael Garside visits a "The Cottage" near Mountain Ash; a new garden in Sketty; a formal garden on the outskirts of Swansea and the village opening their garden gates together in Colwinston.
